Directive 2009/48/EC sets out the rules on the safety of toys and their free movement and defines the obligations to be fulfilled by manufacturers, authorized representatives, importers and distributors.

When placing a toy on the market, manufacturers shall ensure by affixing the CE marking on the toy that it has been designed and manufactured in accordance with the essential safety requirements (Article 10 and Annex II).

The manufacturer must prepare the technical documentation as required by Article 21 of the Directive, carry out or have carried out the applicable conformity assessment procedure in accordance with Article 19, and draw up the declaration of conformity.

Toys without the CE marking cannot be placed on the market.

Carrying out laboratory tests with reference to the applicable regulations.

Verifying the compliance of the toy with the technical documentation.

Issue of the EC type-examination certificate.
